Dillard Wins the Day in Shreveport
Shreveport, LA- Dillard kicked off the 2023 GCAC Volleyball Tournament, winning awards and advancing to the semi-finals. Cadence Thomas(FR) was the lone First-Team All-GCAC honoree for the Bleu Devils. She has had a dominant season, leading the Bleu Devils in attacking as a freshman. Taylor Hurst(SR), Vanae Sapp(JR), and Sara Da Silva(JR) were awarded Second-Team All-GCAC honors for their exceptional play this season. Sapp and Hurst earned all-conference awards last season and have positioned themselves amongst the best players in the conference. Da Silva has had a major impact on the Bleu Devils season with her veteran leadership and determination. The Hawaii native, Chasry Lum-King, earned Honorable Mention All-GCAC honors for her performance this season. Chasry has been consistently defending and passing this season, which helped the Bleu Devils notch 20 wins. The Dillard Volleyball team would also get an award for their play this year, finishing as the GCAC Regular Season Runner-Up.
Dillard dominated Oakwood (AL) with a final score of 3-0, with set scores of 25-13, 25-11, and 25-8 in the first match of their tournament
Oakwood (AL) struggled throughout the match, with negative hitting percentages in all three sets. Their attack was led by Rheanna Thomas and Anna Jones, who each had 2 kills. However, their efforts were not enough to overcome Dillard's strong performance.
Dillard had a efficient attack, with hitting percentages of .242, .371, and .320 in the three sets. Vanae Sapp led the team with 11 kills, followed by Sara Da Silva with 10 kills. Taylor Hurst played a key role in setting up the offense, recording 20 assists.
Defensively, Oakwood (AL) struggled to dig out Dillard's attacks. Dillard had a strong defensive performance, with Chasry Lum-King leading the team with 12 digs.
Overall, Dillard showcased their dominance in this match, outperforming Oakwood (AL) in all aspects of the game. Their efficient attack and strong defense led them to a decisive victory. Dillard now awaits the winner of Fisk/Rust matchup to see who they will compete against at 6:00 PM on Monday, Nov 6th. Dillard swept Rust in the previous matchups and split the season series with Fisk.
