New Orleans, La- Dillard traveled to Jackson, TN, to compete in the Dragon Classic hosted by NCAA Division 2, Lane College. The Bleu Devils would find nothing but success as they retain a six-game win streak and an undefeated record in GCAC play. The Bleu Devils would start with the newest addition to the GCAC, Talladega College, winning 3-2 in a tough-fought battle. Their second opponent would be the host of the classic, Lane College, who was no match for the young Bleu Devil team as they won 3-1. The Third opponent, Winston-Salem State Univesity, would be no match for the Bleu Devils' versatile attack as they won in straight sets(3-0). The last team to stand in the way of an undefeated weekend would be the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State University, who could not match the intensity the Bleu Devils brought to the match. They would win 3-0 and mark their most significant win to date,25-7. The weekend was packed with energy and won for the Bleu Devils as they face off against Conference opponents on Friday, September 8th: Oakwood(1 PM) and Fisk(7 PM).
Dillard vs Talladega College
In Dillard's first conference matchup against Talladega, Dillard came out on top with a score of 3-2. The sets were closely contested, with Dillard winning the first, third, and fifth sets and Talladega winning the second and fourth sets. Cadence Thomas(FR) would lead the Bleu Devils in Kills with 11, and Junior Vanae Sapp would follow close behind with 10. Taylor Hurst would be the assist leader for the Bleu Devils, racking up 19, and also played an active role in defending with ten digs. However, the Bleu Devils would just get started as they defeated Talledega.
Dillard vs. Lane College
Dillard defeated Lane in a four-set match. The victory was mainly due to the freshman duo Cadence Thomas and Gabrielle Washington. Thomas had ten kills and scored 12 points in the game to lead all Bleu Devils. Washington racked up nine kills and was responsible for 10.5 points alone. Senior Taylor Hurst would continue to show why she was elected all-conference last season with 22 assists. Ajanae Chatam(FR) would also make a difference with 14 assists and seven digs as a reserve player. The Bleu Devils would end day one unscathed and building momentum.
Dillard vs. Winston-Salem State University
Dillard would face off against their second division 2 opponent, and the results would be similar to the first game as they defeated the Rams 3-0. Sara Da Silva(JR) and Cadence Thomas(FR) would lead the Bleu Devils on offense with eight kills each. Da Silva would also have an active role on defense with seven digs. Taylor Hurst(SR) would miss a double-double with 17 assists and nine digs. Senior all-conference defender Chasry Lum-King would lead the team with 12 digs as the Bleu Devils made light work of the Rams in straight sets.
Dillard vs. Harris - Stowe State University
The Bleu Devils would come into the final contest with all the momentum, which was evident. Dillard would easily win the battle over Harris-Stowe, winning by one of the most enormous margins this season( 25-7). Sara Da Silva(SR) would have a complete game as she finished with a team-leading eight kills with seven digs. The win was a total team effort as the Bleu Devils held the Hornets to a negative hitting percentage. Chasry Lum-King(SR) would lead the Bleu Devils in digs again with 13. Freshman setter Ajanae Chatam would also serve well as she led the team with three service aces.
