Bleu Devils Women Track Team Holds their Own

LAKE CHARLES– Kevell Byrd continues to shine in the 400m event this season, remaining undefeated with an impressive time of 58.18 seconds. She showcased her skills by winning the race convincingly, finishing almost 30 meters ahead of her closest competitor. Ta'nijal Matthews displayed her talent as well, finishing second overall after winning her own heat. Meanwhile, Ta'nyia Flower made her season debut in the 400m, ending up in fifth place. Yasmin Pines, a transfer athlete, is also improving consistently, as she cut another second off her season's personal best time.
Darnee Williams had a busy day, competing in two events and finishing fifth in the 55m and thirteenth in the shot put. Freshman Reign Snowden is making strides for California with her noteworthy performances, placing seventh in the shot put with a throw of 11.42m and in the weight throw at 13.68m, which ranks as the second-best on the all-time list. Transfer athlete Shauntezz-Marie Thomas debuted in the shot put with a solid 12th place finish, achieving a distance of 10.55m. Senior Charra Bridges , finishing 19th in the shot put and 16th in the weight throw.
In the jumping events, Shaloni Walker showcased her abilities by finishing sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.45m and placing 11th in the long jump at 4.64m.

Kennedy Timmons had a long day at the track, finishing 13th in the 3000-meter race and 19th in the mile run. The competition was fierce, especially among the top athletes in Division 1. Caitlyn Gordon kicked off her indoor season in the 800-meter event, where she faced strong competition. Finishing 21st, she set a solid foundation for the season ahead. Laila Johnson had a standout performance by winning the 55-meter hurdle event, marking her first individual victory of her college career. This win is especially exciting for Johnson, highlighting her hard work and determination in training.
