The Dillard Women’s Tennis Team Downed By No. 14 Loyola University New Orleans, 6-1, on Wednesday
New Orleans – The Dillard University women's tennis team (0-2) showed improvement in falling to No. 14 Loyola University New Orleans by a 6-1 score on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 16, at City Park Tennis Center.
"We got off the steering block finally today with the guys and to accomplish that in such a short time is all credit to their resilience and getting my message," head coach Meenakshi Sundaram. "We lost the war today, but won a couple of key battles that will help keep get us on the track we need to be on. Great work by Kaavya Palani today as she continues to surprise herself although not me. Overall it was a great day to be a Bleu Devil! Allez !!"
The Bleu Devils fell in the opening doubles match 6-2 with the team of Prerana Koirala – Hafsa Sanhaji falling 6-2 to the team of Lucy Carpenter – Fatima Vasquez from Loyola.
The second doubles pairing of Kaavya Palani – Kayla Henningan lost 6-0 to Loyola's Maddie Chavet – Reilly Briggs.
Loyola won the third doubles match by default.
In singles play, Koirala lost to Carpenter in the number one spot 6-1, 7-5.
In the second-seed Palani defeated Vasquez 6-4 and 7-5.
The third-seed saw Loyola Maddie Chavet defeat Hafsa Sanhaji 6-0 and 7-5.
In the fourth singles spot Isabella Leano defeated Dillard's Kayla Hennigan 6-0, 6-0
Next, the DU women come back to the Bleu Devil Courts to host Mississippi University for Women on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m.
