Dillard Dominates Southern University at New Orleans for a Convincing Victory
NEW ORLEANS – Dillard showcased a commanding performance against Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) in a women's basketball matchup at The Castle, securing an 81-62 victory. This victory bolstered Dillard's record to 16-6 overall and 13-2 in conference play, while SUNO fell to 7-17 overall and 5-10 in the conference.
The game commenced with a close first quarter, where Dillard edged out SUNO by just one point, leading 19-18. However, the second quarter proved pivotal for Dillard as they held SUNO to just 3 points while scoring 19, establishing a substantial lead by halftime.
Dillard continued their dominance in the third quarter, outscoring SUNO 24-17. Although SUNO managed to generate some offense in the fourth quarter, scoring 24 points, it was not enough to overcome the deficit, with Dillard maintaining their lead and closing the game with a 19-point victory.
For Dillard, Skyler Christmas led the scoring with 19 points on an efficient 6-10 shooting, coupled with 6-7 from the free-throw line. Cassidy Lowe was instrumental on the boards and in the paint, securing a double-double with 18 points and a staggering 16 rebounds. D'Mya Ferguson also contributed a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, reinforcing Dillard's control over the game.
SUNO's Jordan Harris was their top performer, scoring 16 points, including three 3-pointers. However, the team struggled with shooting efficiency, making just 32.9% of their field goals and encountering difficulties at the free-throw line with 55% accuracy.
Dillard's overall shooting was 41% from the field and an impressive 90% from the free-throw line, highlighting their offensive efficiency. They also dominated the boards, out-rebounding SUNO 50 to 37. In contrast, SUNO shot 32.9% from the field and faced challenges with turnovers, committing 17 compared to Dillard's 20.
