Lady Bleu Devils 5-Game Win Streak Comes to an End

NEW ORLEANS–In a closely contested basketball matchup, Tougaloo College emerged victorious against Dillard University with a final score of 64-59. The game, held in Tougaloo, Mississippi, showcased significant performances and strategic gameplay from both teams.

Tougaloo College, now with an 11-5 overall record and 8-2 in the HBCUAC conference, utilized a balanced offensive approach to secure the win. Key contributions came from Makaila Brown, who dominated the boards with an impressive 20 rebounds alongside her 15 points. Brayland Ferguson also played a pivotal role, adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. Despite shooting only 31.5% from the field and 15% from beyond the arc, Tougaloo's efficiency at the free-throw line (77.1%) provided them with a vital edge.

Dillard University, with a 10-7 record and 7-3 in conference play, put up a strong fight. Cassidy Lowe led the charge with a double-double, scoring 19 points and securing 20 rebounds. Azaria Knox also contributed with 13 points.  However, Dillard struggled with shooting efficiency, hitting only 31.9% of their field goals and 16.7% from three-point range. Their inability to capitalize on free-throw opportunities, where they shot just 57.9%, further hindered their efforts.

The game saw fluctuations in momentum, with both teams delivering strong performances in different quarters. Dillard started strong with 17 points in the first quarter, but Tougaloo managed to pull ahead, maintaining a slight lead through their consistent scoring and defensive plays. The match was intensely competitive, evidenced by Dillard's late surge in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Tougaloo's lead.
