The Dillard Women’s Basketball Team Falls In Regular Season Finale To Rust College, 67-40
Holly Springs, Miss. – The Dillard women's basketball team (9-15, 2-6 GCAC) lost the regular season finale to Rust College (23-3, 7-1 GCAC) on Monday, Feb. 21, at Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium in Holly Springs, Miss.
Ayani Cockrell reached double figures for Dillard with 11 points. She also had three rebounds. Sequoia Emmanuel picked up five points and two rebounds. Erika Diaz also scored five points for Dillard.
Rust College was led by 16 points from Jade Lewis. Katie Blackmon had a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Shay Johnson had eight points and seven assists.
For the game, Dillard shot 12-for-56 from the field (21.4 percent), 3-for-15 from three-point range (16.7 percent), 13-for-24 from the line (54.2 percent). The program also had 32 rebounds, six assists, 11 steals and a block.
The Lady Bearcats were 28-for-62 from the field (45.2 percent), 5-for-24 from three-point range (20.8 percent) and 6-for-9 from the line (66.7 percent). Rust College also had 52 rebounds, 24 assists, 10 steals and six blocks.
Rust led 30-16 after the first half, but really took control of the game in the third quarter where they outscored Dillard 24-5. DU played better in the fourth as they outscored Rust 19-13 to make the final margin 67-40.
Next, the team awaits its seeding in the upcoming GCAC Basketball Tournament held from Feb. 25-27 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
