The Dillard Women’s Basketball Team Battles Philander Smith College Through Overtime In 68-57 Defeat on Thursday

New Orleans – The Dillard women's basketball team (9-14, 2-5 GCAC) fought Philander Smith College (21-5, 6-1) tough through four quarters, but fell short in overtime in the 68-57 defeat on Senior Night On Thursday, Feb. 17, at Dent Hall.

Taylor Dewitt led the team with her 12 points. She also had four rebounds and two steals. Diniaa McZeal had 10 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Cassidy Lowe picked up five points and 12 rebounds. Sharan Turner had four points, three rebounds and two steals. Tia Perry put up five points and three assists. Ariana Hart tallied eight points and five rebounds. Jordyn Rowe totaled five points, four rebounds and four assists. Alexis Gie picked up four points and three steals. JaQuanna Hunter had seven rebounds and four assists.

Philander Smith was led by 26 points from Rakia Lane. Dasia Turner had a monster game of 15 points and 24 rebounds. De'Vena Smith also reached double figures with 11 points.

For the game, Dillard shot 22-for-75 from the field (29.3 percent), 4-for-24 from three-point range (16.7 percent), 9-for-21 from the line (42.9 percent). The program also had 47 rebounds, 18 assists, 14 steals and four blocks.

The Lady Panthers were 26-for-78 from the field (33.3 percent), 7-for-26 from three-point range (26.9 percent) and 9-for-13 from the line (69.2 percent). Philander Smith also had 59 rebounds, 19 assists, 14 steals and three blocks.

Dillard led 16-10 after the first quarter and 24-23 after the first 20 minutes. The game was tied at 40 after three quarters and at 57 after the fourth. The difference came in overtime where PSC outscored Dillard 11-0 to take the game by the final 68-57 margin.

The game was Senior Night for Dillard's Rayah Haynes, Sharan Turner and JaQuanna Hunter.

Next the team finishes up the regular season and travels to Holly Spring, Miss. to take on Rust College on Monday, Feb. 21, at 5:30 p.m.
