The Dillard Women’s Basketball Team Falls To Tougaloo College In the Final Seconds of the 2022 Bleu Devil Classic

New Orleans – The Dillard women's basketball team (9-13, 2-4 GCAC) lost a heartbreaker in the final seconds of the 2022 Bleu Devil Classic, 70-68, to Tougaloo College (8-15, 1-5 GCAC) at Dent Hall on Feb. 12.

Diniaa McZeal lead a balanced scoring attack for DU with 12 points. She also had two steals. Tabreea Gandy picked up 10 points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Cassidy Lowe totaled 10 points, six rebounds and two steals. Sydni John-Baptiste also reached double figures with 10 points. She also had three rebounds. Tia Perry totaled eight points, six rebounds and five assists. Sharan Turner has seven points, two rebounds, three steals and two blocks. JaQuanna Hunter had four points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Taylor Dewitt had four points and three rebounds.

Tougaloo was led by 15 points from Khrstallyn Harkless. Berniya Hardin had 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Shawanda Gray picked up 14 points and three steals.

For the game, Dillard shot 22-for-55 from the field (40 percent), 4-for-22 from three-point range (18.2 percent), 20-for-29 from the line (69 percent). The program also had 44 rebounds, 20 assists, 18 steals and three blocks.

The Lady Bulldogs were 25-63 from the field (39.7 percent), 8-for-20 from three-point range (40 percent) and 12-for-17 from the line (70.6 percent). Tougaloo also had 34 rebounds, 19 assists, 16 steals and five blocks.

The game was tied at 19 at the half. Dillard led 42-28 at the half and still 57-50 after the third quarter. Tougaloo fought all the way back to tie the game and eventually go ahead for good on a put back from Orlandrea McGee with just four second remaining in the game.

Next the team finishes up the home schedule and hosts Philander Smith on Thursday, Feb. 12, at 5:30 p.m. at Dent Hall. The game will be Senior Day for Rayah Haynes, JaQuanna Hunter and Sharan Turner.
