The Dillard Women’s Basketball Team Falls 65-47 to No. 25 Rust College on Thursday, Feb. 3
New Orleans – The Dillard women's basketball team (8-12, 1-3 GCAC) fought back in the second half, but ultimately fell to No. 25 Rust College (19-2, 4-0 GCAC) on Thursday, Feb. 3, at Dent Hall.
Tabreea Gandy led the team with her 14 points. She just missed out on a double-double with nine rebounds plus a block and a steal. Diniaa McZeal totaled nine points. Sharan Turner chipped in with seven points and four rebounds. Syndi John-Baptiste recorded seven points and four rebounds. Ariana Hart had four points, two rebounds and two steals. Alexis Gie had three points, three assists and two rebounds plus a block.
Rust College was led by 21 points from Shay Johnson. Katie Blackmon had 11 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Zoe Alexander picked up five points and nine rebounds.
For the game, Dillard shot 18-for-66 from the field (27.3 percent), 4-for-23 from three-point range (17.4 percent), 7-for-16 from the line (43.8 percent). The program also had 42 rebounds, 13 assists, nine steals and four blocks.
The Bearcats were 21-58 from the field (36.2 percent), 3-for-17 from three-point range (17.6 percent) and 20-for-33 from the line (60.6 percent). Rust also had 54 rebounds, nine assists, 10 steals and eight blocks.
Rust led 14-7 after the first quarter and 35-24 at the break. Dillard fought back and whittled the lead down to six in the second half before falling 65-47.
Next, the Dillard women's basketball team travels to take on Fisk University on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 3 p.m. in Nashville. The team then returns home to host Tougaloo College on Saturday, Feb.12, at 5:30 p.m. at Dent Hall in the Bleu Devil Classic.
