The Dillard Women’s Basketball Team Fights Back In 50-49 Final Seconds Loss to Fisk University on Monday, Jan. 24
New Orleans – The Dillard women's basketball team (8-10, 1-1 GCAC) got a game-tying jumper in the final 11 seconds of the game only to see Fisk University (6-13, 1-1 GCAC) knock down a free throw in the final five seconds to escape with the 50-49 victory on Monday, Jan. 24, at Dent Hall. It was the first home game for the team at Dent Hall since November 4. The program has now won five of the last eight games.
Jordyn Rowe led the team with 13 points. Taylor Dewitt recorded nine points and seven rebounds. Cassidy Lowe had eight points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Sharan Turner picked up five points. Tabreea Gandy made an impact without scoring a point with 10 rebounds and six assists plus a block and two steals. Ariana Hart had four points, five rebounds and two steals. Rayah Haynes totaled three assists.
Fisk University was led by 11 points from Jaedyn Dunn and Laila Ellioti. Ellotti also had 10 rebounds and four assists.
For the game, Dillard shot 16-for-69 from the field (23.2 percent), 2-for-15 from three-point range (13.3 percent), 15-for-26 from the line (57.7 percent). The program also had 52 rebounds, 15 assists, 12 steals and five block.
The Lady Bulldogs were 19-58 from the field (32.8 percent), 7-for-22 from three-point range (31.8 percent) and 5-for-14 from the line (35.7 percent). Fisk also had 50 rebounds, 11 assists, 10 steals and two blocks.
Fisk led 13-9 after the first quarter and 27-23 at the half. Dillard rallied in the second half to outscore Fisk by a 26-23 margin.
Next, the Dillard women's basketball team gets back on the road and will take on Philander Smith on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 5:30 p.m.
