The Dillard Women’s Basketball Team Begins Conference Play With 60-41 Road Victory Over Tougaloo College

Tougaloo, Miss. – The Dillard women's basketball team (8-9) came out firing in a 60-41 road conference victory over Tougaloo College (7-11) on Thursday, Jan. 20, at Kroger Gymnasium. This was the first game for DU since December 14. The program has now won five of the last seven games.

Ariana Hart led the team with her 11 points. She also had five rebounds and three steals. Taylor Dewitt picked up nine points plus a block and a steal. Tabreea Gandy had eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. JaQuanna Hunter picked up six points, nine rebounds and five steals. Alexis Gie had four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Sharan Turner totaled eight points, three rebounds and two blocks. Jordyn Rowe had eight points and six rebounds. Cassidy Lowe chipped in with four points. Ayani Cockrell totaled three points and six rebounds.

Tougaloo College was led by 14 points from Berniya Harden. Orlandrea McGee had eight points and five rebounds.

For the game, Dillard shot 23-for-61 from the field (37.7 percent), 1-for-10 from three-point range (10 percent), 13-for-24 from the line (54.2 percent). The program also had 49 rebounds, nine assists, 16 steals and five block.

The Lady Bulldogs were 14-70 from the field (31.8 percent), 7-for-22 from three-point range (31.8 percent) and 6-for-7 from the line (85.7 percent). Tougaloo also had 37 rebounds, eight assists, six steals and four blocks.

Dillard jumped out to a quick 14-2 lead after the first 10 minutes and led 24-14 at the half. DU continued its fine play in the second half in outscoring the Bulldogs 36-27 on the way to the 60-41 victory.

Next, the Dillard women's basketball team returns to Dent Hall to host Fisk University in the second GCAC game of the season on Monday, Jan. 24, at 5:30 p.m.
