Dillard Dominates Voorhees University with a 10-2 Victory
NEW ORLEANS– In an impressive exhibition of skill, Dillard University soundly defeated Voorhees University with a final score of 10-2 in their March 16, 2025. Dillard's offensive power was on full display, particularly in the middle innings, which secured their decisive win.
The game started with both teams held scoreless for the first two innings. Voorhees University managed to get on the scoreboard first, posting a single run in the third inning. However, Dillard responded explosively in the fourth inning with a four-run rally, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. This momentum continued into the fifth inning, where Dillard added another four runs to their total. They closed out their scoring with two additional runs in the sixth inning, while Voorhees only managed to add one more run in the fifth.
Dillard's standout performers included Jennifer Gress, who went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Madison Clark, who contributed with three hits and two RBIs. Ca'Terra Bates also delivered a strong performance with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. The team collectively tallied 12 hits and demonstrated aggressive baserunning with successful steals by Jennifer Gress, De'Asia Davenport, and Raychelle Williams.
On the mound, Dillard's Mary-Elizabeth Landry pitched an effective game, completing six innings while allowing only seven hits and two runs, earning him the win and bringing his record to 7-7 for the season. Landry also struck out six batters and issued three walks.
Voorhees University struggled to contain Dillard's offense despite a valiant effort. D. Snodey and A. Davis each contributed two hits, but the team could only muster seven hits in total. Defensive errors by A. Davis and pitching challenges contributed to Voorhees' difficulties in maintaining competitiveness in the game.
Despite the loss, Voorhees demonstrated resilience and looks to regroup for their next matchup. Meanwhile, Dillard will aim to maintain their momentum and continue to capitalize on their offensive strategies in future games. The game was played without an audience, but it nevertheless showcased Dillard's formidable prowess on the softball field.
