John Melvin University Triumphs Over Dillard in a Nail-Biter

NEW ORLEANS–In an exhilarating matchup held on February 11, 2025, at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, John Melvin University clinched a narrow victory against Dillard, finishing with a final score of 5-4. The game, which lasted two hours and attracted an audience of 50 spectators, showcased a tense battle between the two teams.

The scoring opened in the third inning with a solo home run by John Melvin University's N. Herbert, setting the tone for the visitors. The game remained tight until the sixth inning when John Melvin capitalized on a fielding error and further extended their lead with a two-run homer by J. Westfall, making it 4-0.

Dillard  retaliated in the bottom of the sixth inning, narrowing the gap to 4-3. Their resurgence was powered by Ca'Terra Bates, who doubled in a run, and Madison Clark, who delivered a crucial two-RBI single, bringing in teammates Haley Weatherspoon and Bates.

Despite Dillard's efforts, John Melvin managed to score again in the seventh inning, thanks to another key hit from J. Westfall, who drove in A. Coleman, increasing their lead to 5-3. Dillard attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh with Kyiera Torrence pushing Trenity Okedele across the plate, but their efforts fell short, concluding the game at 5-4 in favor of John Melvin University.

Both teams demonstrated strong performances, with John Melvin's J. Aube pitching a complete game, striking out ten batters while allowing six hits and four earned runs. On the other side, J. Gress of Dillard pitched 6.2 innings, conceding four hits and five runs, two of which were home runs.
