Dillard Men's Basketball named Co-Champions of HBCUAC
NEW ORLEANS– The HBCU Athletic Conference announced the conference co-champions on Friday, Feb. 21. Dillard is sharing the title with Stillman and Tougaloo College. Though all three teams share the same conference record, Stillman takes the number one seed as they defeated both Dillard and Tougaloo in the first crossover pod of the season in December hosted by Dillard. This leaves Dillard as the number three seed for the tournament and the Bleu Devils will not have to play until the quarterfinals at noon on Friday.
"Under the leadership of head coach Joseph Price, they went 10-1 in HBCUAC play after the calendar flipped to 2025, including winning all four games at the Crossover hosted by Talladega College and Stillman College in January. The Bleu Devils have strong guard and post play. Tory Cargo is averaging 15.1 points per game and 2.7 assists per game. Bentravin Phillips is averaging 13.1 points per game. Khalif Allim records 11.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Armond Williams notches 10.8 and 6.8 rebounds per game. The Bleu Devils will play in the quarterfinals at noon on February 28 against the winner of No. 6 Southern University at New Orleans (11-16, 9-8) and No. 11 Rust College (8-16, 5-13), who play in the opening round at 2 p.m. on Wednesday," stated hbcuac.org.
The Bleu Devils haven't earned the title of regular season champs since 2017-2018. They will be traveling to Tuscaloosa, AL on Wednesday to participate in the award banquet the conference has prepared. They are hoping to go in and finish what they started last year, not only making it to the championship game, but winning it and being named the HBCUAC Tournament Champions. All of the games will be streamed on Urban Edge Network, which is free to download for fans who want to watch the games.
