The Dillard Men’s Basketball Team Battles To The End In 75-73 Loss to No. 3 Talladega
New Orleans – The Dillard men's basketball team (5-12) put up a strong team effort in falling to No. 3 nationally ranked Talladega (14-1) by a 75-73 loss on Thursday, Jan. 13, at Dent Hall.
Four players reached double figures for Dillard. DU was led by Kaleb Allison's 18 points. Allison also had four rebounds and an assist. Rajhan Billingsley recorded 16 points, eight rebounds and an assist. Jeremiah August had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds. Elijah Moore totaled 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and a steal. Shemar Bates just missed out on a double-double as he had eight points, seven rebounds and 10 rebounds. Taiveyhon Mason picked up five points and two rebounds.
For Talladega, four players reached double figures led by 14 from Edwin Louis. Trevon Adams had 13 points. Cam Potts picked up 12 points, while Malcolm Bell totaled 11.
Dillard shot 23-for-55 from the field (41.8 percent), 5-for-14 from three-point range (35.7 percent) and 22-for-32 from the free throw line (68.8 percent). The program also picked up 45 rebounds, 14 assists and three steals. The Tornadoes shot 28-for-69 from the field (40.6 percent), 11-for-28 (39.3 percent) from three-point range and 8-for-10 (80 percent) from the free throw line. Talladega also totaled 33 rebounds, 21 assists, five blocks and four steals.
Dillard led 29-28 at the half. Talladega jumped all over Dillard to start the second half and with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game DU found itself down 15 points before rallying back to get to within a point in the final minute. The team's rally and bid to pull the upset came up just short in the 75-73 loss to their former conference rival.
The men's basketball team is next in action on Thursday, Jan. 20, when the program travels to Tougaloo, Miss. to open Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play against Tougaloo College at 7:30 p.m.
