New Orleans – The Dillard men's basketball team (5-11) started the second half of the season with a 72-67 home loss to Arkansas Baptist on Saturday, Jan. 8, at Dent Hall. The program has now lost 11 of the last 13 games. The game was the first for Dillard since December 14.
Elijah Moore lead the team in scoring with 26 points. He also had eight rebounds and three assists. Rajhan Billingsley totaled 20 points and four rebounds. Taiveyhon Mason totaled seven points and two assists. Jay Malone had five points. Jeremiah August recorded 16 points, four assists and three blocks. Nick Carmouche picked up 10 assists.
For ABC, three players reached double figures with G'Quavious Lennon leading the program with 24 points. Gabriel Johnson had 16 points, seven assists and seven steals. Kwashek Breeden had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Dillard shot 24-for-61 from the field (39.3 percent), 12-for-24 from three-point range (50 percent) and 7-for-12 from the free throw line (58.3 percent). The program also picked up 41 rebounds, 22 assists, four blocks and three steals. The Bison shot 27-for-67 from the field (40.3 percent), 9-for-24 (37.5 percent) from three-point range and 9-for-11 (81.8 percent) from the free throw line. Arkansas Baptist also totaled 40 rebounds, 19 assists, five blocks and 11 steals.
Dillard led 39-35 at the half, but were outscored 37-28 over the final 20 minutes. The program had a brief 65-64 lead with under a minute remaining before being outscored 8-2 to close out the contest.
The men's basketball team is next in action on Tuesday, Jan. 11, when the program plays a rescheduled exhibition contest against University of New Orleans at Lakefront Arena starting at 7 p.m. The team then get back to regular season play and takes on No. 3 nationally ranked Talladega on Thursday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m.
