Strong Defense Leads the Dillard Men’s Basketball Team to a 68-48 Senior Day Victory Over Philander Smith on Thursday
New Orleans – The Dillard men's basketball team (9-15, 4-3 GCAC) picked up a big 68-48 Senior Day victory over visiting Philander Smith College (13-6, 5-2 GCAC) on Thursday, Feb. 17, at Dent Hall.
Kaleb Allison led the charge with his 21 points. He also had 15 rebounds. Elijah Moore picked up 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Rajhan Billingsley tallied 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jeremiah August had a double-double of 13 points and 16 rebounds. He also had two assists and two steals. Nicholas Carmouche totaled three points and two assists. Mekai Pope had three points and two rebounds. Kenneth Bates had a pair of rebounds.
For Philander Smith, Robert Jordan led the team with his 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Aaron Johnson also reached double figures with 10 points.
Dillard shot 21-for-62 from the field (33.9 percent), 5-for-18 from three-point range (27.8 percent) and 21-for-31 from the free throw line (67.7 percent). The program also picked up 59 rebounds, 12 assists and four steals.
The Panthers shot 18-for-63 from the field (28.6 percent), 5-for-25 (20 percent) from three-point range and 7-for-14 (50 percent) from the free throw line. Philander Smith also totaled 38 rebounds, 12 assists, nine blocks and five steals.
Dillard was up 21-20 at the half and really took control in the second half when they outscored PSC 47-28 for the 68-48 victory.
The game was Senior Day for Dillard's Kaleb Allison, Nicholas Carmouche, Taiveyhon Mason, Elijah Moore and Elijah Pittman.
The men's basketball team finishes up the 2021-22 regular season on the road against Rust College on Monday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Holly Springs, Miss.
