The Dillard Men’s Basketball Team Downed by Tougaloo College, 70-68, in the 2022 Bleu Devil Classic

New Orleans – The Dillard men's basketball team (8-15, 3-3 GCAC) led for most of the game, but were tipped at the end on a pair of made free throws by Tougaloo College (15-7, 5-1 GCAC) on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Dent Hall in the 2022 Bleu Devil Classic by a 72-70 score. The loss snap a two-game winning streak.

TC's Antwan Beans was fouled during a tie game with seven seconds remaining and calmly hit both free throws to give the visiting Bulldogs the two-point victory.

Dillard's Elijah Moore led the charge for Dillard with a career-high 33 points. He also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Moore accounted for 47 percent of the team's points in the loss. He was joined in double figures by Kaleb Allison. Allison totaled 19 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Rajhan Billingsley picked up nine points and two rebounds. Jeremiah August had four points and seven rebounds plus two assists, a block and a steal. Nicholas Carmouche totaled three points, eight assists and two rebounds. Mekai Pope had two points. Shemar Bates had two rebounds and two steals.

For Tougaloo, five players reached double figures and were led by 13 points from Sebron Carter, Trajan Fielder and Cameron Woodall. Beans had 12 points and 11 assists.  

Dillard shot 28-for-56 from the field (50 percent), 3-for-12 from three-point range (25 percent) and 11-for-13 from the free throw line (84.6 percent). The program also picked up 30 rebounds, 16 assists, four blocks and seven steals. The Bulldogs shot 24-for-53 from the field (45.2 percent), 7-for-21 (33.3 percent) from three-point range and 17-for-26 (65.6 percent) from the free throw line. Tougaloo also totaled 33 rebounds, 19 assists and seven steals.

Dillard 34-29 at the half, but saw Tougaloo fight back to outscore them 43-36 over the final 20 minutes of action.

The men's basketball team finishes up the home schedule and hosts Philander Smith College on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be Senior Night for Kaleb Allison, Nicholas Carmouche, Elijah Moore and Elijah Pittman.
