The Dillard Men’s Basketball Team Falls 78-66 In Road League Opener to Tougaloo College
Tougaloo, Miss. – The Dillard men's basketball team (5-13, 0-1 GCAC) lost to GCAC rival Tougaloo College (12-6, 1-0 GCAC) on the road by a 78-66 score on Thursday, Jan. 20. The loss was the fifth straight for Dillard and the 13th loss in the last 15 games.
Four players reached double figures for Dillard. DU was led by Jeremiah August's 15 points. He had a near double-double with nine rebounds. August also totaled two blocks and two steals. Elijah Moore totaled 14 points, three rebounds and two steals. Shemar Bates picked up 12 points, six rebounds and a steal. Kaleb Allison recorded 12 points, three rebounds and a block. Cinque Harris had four points and three rebounds.
For Tougaloo, Cameron Copeland had 19 points, 10 assists and a six rebounds. Antwan Beans had 17 points and six assists. Jaylen Lester also reached double figures with 11 points. Tyler Crump had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Dillard shot 23-for-53 from the field (43.4 percent), 2-for-8 from three-point range (25 percent) and 18-for-25 from the free throw line (72 percent). The program also picked up 31 rebounds, an assist, three blocks and five steals. The Bulldogs shot 33-for-64 from the field (51.6 percent), 8-for-21 (38.1 percent) from three-point range and 4-for-6 (66.7 percent) from the free throw line. Tougaloo also totaled 27 rebounds, 21 assists, a block and three steals.
Tougaloo led throughout of this one. The Bulldogs were up 35-25 at the half and outscored Dillard 43-41 over the final 20 minutes for the 78-66 victory. TC's largest lead in this one ended up being 20 points.
The men's basketball team is next in action on Monday, Jan. 27, when the program returns home to host Fisk University at 7:30 p.m.
