Bio
Coach Robert “Bob” Shelton came to Dillard University after retiring from a professional career which spanned 25 years in progressively senior roles within the United States Senate. Culminating with his position as Deputy Assistant Sergeant at Arms for Capitol Operations. In this role, Bob was responsible for all day to day operations of the Senate Chamber; coordinating requirements of the media, public, and staff while ensuring senators were able to efficiently complete the business of the American people.
Bob has had a passion for sports from a young age. He starred as a three sport athlete at Marian Catholic High School before focusing on football at Illinois Wesleyan University.
Coach Shelton never forgot the lessons his youth, high school, and college coaches imparted on him and when the opportunity to give back through coaching presented itself, he jumped on it. Coach Shelton’s 16-year baseball coaching career mirrored his professional one. Working his way up through the ranks from coaching youth teams to elite travel programs and most recently spending five years as assistant head coach at national powerhouse Riverdale Baptist High School, a private Christian high school in Upper Marlboro, MD, before joining Dillard University.
