Dillard University Dominates Stillman Tigers in Impressive Victory
NEW ORLEANS– On March 15, 2025, at Wesley Barrow Stadium, Dillard University delivered a commanding performance against the Stillman Tigers, securing a 7-1 victory. The game, which kicked off at midnight, saw Dillard University demonstrate their offensive prowess, outmatching the Tigers in both hits and runs.
Despite a slow start, Dillard University gained momentum in the second inning when Donovan Shead grounded out, allowing Angel Polanco to score, giving Dillard an early lead. By the fourth inning, Jalen Ayers extended the lead with a home run to left field. K'Wality Williams further added to the tally with a sacrifice fly, bringing Polanco home once more.
Polanco remained a standout player throughout the game, going 4-for-4 and scoring four runs. His exceptional performance included a home run in the seventh inning, driving in two runs and solidifying his influence on the game's outcome. Meanwhile, Shead and Williams also contributed significantly with two RBIs each.
Stillman Tigers struggled to find their rhythm against Dillard's effective pitching lineup. Dillard's starting pitcher, Kejuan Burnett, impressively held the Tigers to just one run across 6.2 innings, striking out eight batters. Trenton Rosebourgh and Daryl Tillman Jr. provided solid relief, ensuring no further runs were conceded.
The Tigers managed only five hits over the course of the game, with their sole run coming in the seventh inning from a Rehorn single that brought Elliot home. Despite their efforts, the Tigers were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving nine men on base.
In contrast, Dillard University effectively converted their 14 hits into seven runs, maintaining pressure on Stillman's pitchers, Roland and Vallejo. While Roland managed six innings with two strikeouts, he conceded four runs. Vallejo, who followed, allowed three more runs, making it difficult for the Tigers to mount a comeback.
Overall, Dillard University's strategic play and solid performances from key players secured their victory, emphasizing their readiness for upcoming challenges in the season. As they celebrated a well-deserved win, Stillman Tigers were left to reflect on areas for improvement ahead of their next matchup.
