Dillard is Swept by Talladega in Weekend Series
TALLADEGA, AL– On March 1, 2025, Talladega (AL) continued its impressive season with a commanding 15-5 victory over Dillard (LA) in a non-conference baseball matchup at home. Talladega, now boasting a 15-4 overall record and an undefeated 9-0 in conference play, showcased their offensive prowess and strong pitching to overwhelm Dillard, who now stand at 9-7 overall and 4-5 in their conference.
The game began quietly with both teams scoreless in the first inning, but Talladega took the lead in the second inning with two runs, sparked by a triple from S. Pizarro and a sacrifice grounder by J. Lamboy. Dillard responded in the third inning, briefly taking the lead with a five-run burst highlighted by a two-RBI double from Jalen Ayers and a two-run homer by RayJ Rose, putting them ahead 5-2.
However, Talladega quickly regained control in the bottom of the third inning, launching a relentless offensive onslaught. M. Oropeza's solo homer ignited an eight-run rally for the Tornadoes, which capitalized on Dillard's defensive errors and pitching struggles. Talladega's J. Lamboy and J. Williams played pivotal roles, each driving in multiple runs to extend the lead to 10-5.
Talladega continued to pile on the runs in the subsequent innings. In the fourth, J. Williams added two more RBIs with a single, and in the fifth, S. Pizarro and J. Cruz each contributed RBI hits to finalize the score at 15-5. Talladega's relentless offense was supported by solid pitching from D. Jose, who, despite allowing five runs in his two innings, was backed by J. New's three innings of scoreless relief, striking out six and allowing no hits.
Dillard's defense struggled, committing seven errors throughout the game, which significantly impacted their performance. Their pitchers, led by Brandon Dickerson II, who took the loss, were unable to contain Talladega's potent lineup.
The game concluded in 2 hours and 32 minutes, witnessed by an attendance of 70 spectators at Talladega's home field. Dillard will be looking to bounce back from this loss with their next conference games.
