Dillard Shows Dominance in a 17-1 Victory Over Oakwood (AL)
NEW ORLEANS– In an impressive showcase of offensive prowess, Dillard (LA) overwhelmed Oakwood (AL) with a commanding 17-1 victory on February 13, 2025. The game, held at Dillard's home field, was marked by an explosive performance from Dillard's lineup, with nearly every player contributing to the scoreboard.
From the onset, Dillard set the tone in the first inning. A combination of strategic baserunning and clutch hitting saw Jaylen Mateo score the opening run, followed by Jalen Ayers stealing home to provide an early 2-0 lead. This momentum only intensified as the game progressed.
The second inning added another run to Dillard's tally, capitalizing on a balk that allowed Derrald Moore Jr to cross home plate. However, it was the third inning where Dillard truly flexed its muscle, scoring a staggering 10 runs. Key highlights included a two-run homer by Braylon Guerin and a series of doubles from RayJ Rose, K'Wality Williams, and Donovan Shead, which effectively sealed the game's outcome early on.
Dillard continued to demonstrate their superiority in the fourth inning, adding four more runs, highlighted by a three-RBI double from RayJ Rose. This offensive onslaught left Oakwood's pitchers, D. Cobb and E. Kennedy, struggling to find answers as they collectively conceded 17 runs on 18 hits.
Oakwood's lone bright spot came in the fifth inning when T. Hamilton executed a sacrifice fly, allowing J. Jennings to score. However, this did little to alter the tide of the game, as Dillard's pitcher, Dontre Henry, maintained control throughout, allowing just one run on five hits over five innings.
The comprehensive victory was not only a testament to Dillard's batting depth but also their strategic approach on the bases, recording multiple stolen bases which kept Oakwood on the back foot. With this dominant performance, Dillard showcased why they are a formidable force, leaving Oakwood in search of answers and adjustments for their next encounter.
