Bio

(sports responsible for volleyball, women’s basketball, and men’s and women’s tennis)

Nia Stewart was hired as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Dillard University in the spring of 2022.

A Morgan City, Louisiana native, Stewart has been an Ochsner Athletic Trainer since August 2015. Before that, she served two seasons as an Intern Athletic Trainer for the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League.

For the past year and a half (2020-2022), she has worked in the Physical Therapy clinic at Ochsner alongside Sports Certified Physical Therapists. Before that, Stewart was the athletic trainer for the cross-country and track and field teams at the University of New Orleans (2019-2020). She has also worked as the athletic trainer for the volleyball, women’s basketball, and track and field teams at Xavier University of Louisiana (2017-2018), as well as head athletic trainer at both West Jefferson (2015-2017) and Helen Cox High Schools (2018-2019).

She received her bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Southeastern Louisiana University, where she was a four-year letter winner in women's track and field, set school records indoors in the 55- and 60-meter dashes and was a Southland Conference runner-up in the long jump. While at Southeastern, she gained clinical experience working with football, women’s basketball, and women’s soccer. Nia received her master's degree in exercise science and health promotion with a concentration in rehabilitation science from California University of Pennsylvania, where she also got her certification as a NASE Level II Certified Speed Specialist.

Stewart is the primary sports medicine contact for Volleyball, Women’s Basketball, and Men’s and Women’s Tennis. She assists with the other teams as needed.

She is licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners and is a member of the Louisiana Athletic Trainers' Association and the National Association of Speed and Explosion.

Stewart and her son, Ryan, reside in Metairie.
