Dewitt Comes Alive to Lead Bleu Devils to Victory
Shreveport,LA-Coach Rome and the Lady Bleu Devils get off to a great start in Shreveport taking on LSU-Alexandria. The contest was a great challenge to start the season for Dillard as they played a close contest. The game saw only three lead changes as the Bleu Devils held a tight lead for most of the game. The Bleu Devils would see their largest lead in the 4th quarter when it mattered most. Dillard led by 13 with 1:13 left in the 4th quarter. The lead was mostly due to Taylor Dewitt's surge of points. Dewitt would score 12 of her 17 points in the 4th quarter to lead the Bleu Devils to their first victory. Dewitt would start a chain of scoring when she entered the game off the bench in the 4th quarter. Dewitt would have an and-1 basket followed by a key steal from Ariana Hart which led to a layup. Ayani Cockrell would then insert herself with another key steal and finish an and-1 finish at the basket. Dewitt would then score on the next 3 Bleu Devil offensive possessions to cap off a 13-6 run. The big fourth quarter would result in a 74-61 victory to kick off the 22-23 season for the Lady Bleu Devils. The Bleu Devils will look to carry their 4th quarter momentum into tomorrow's match against LSU-Shreveport at 5:00 pm CST. Ayani Cockrell finished second on the team in scoring with 15 points. Cockrell would also have 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Cassidy Lowe also played a key part in the game with 13 points and 2 rebounds. Aubree Dawson and Alexis Gie both lead the team with 3 assists. Ariana Hart showed active hands on defense with a team-best 3 steals.
