Dillard University Selects Melvin Marshall as New Baseball Head Coach
NEW ORLEANS (September 2,2025) – Melvin Marshall has been selected to lead the Bleu Devil Baseball program into its fourth year.
Coach Marshall is bringing 20 years of collegiate level coaching to the program. The Jacksonville native is a Hall of Fame Inductee at Shaw University for both baseball and basketball. Prior to accepting the role as head coach, Marshall did double duty at Paine College fulfulling the roles of baseball and men's basketball head coach. During his time at Paine, he's led the baseball team to the SIAC Championship game as well as to multiple HBCU Black College World Series appearances. Prior to is 14-year tenure at Paine, Coach Marshall was the head coach at Edward Waters University, formerly College, where he took the program from 10 wins in 2006 to 35 wins in 2008.
Last season, the baseball program, led by Coach White had an overall record of 26-23 and 19-11 record in conference. Coach Marshall's focus is to "build a championship-caliber program grounded in discipline, accountability, and community engagement." The baseball program made an appearance in the conference championship during the 2023-24 season, but haven't won since their inaugural year. Coach Marshall, who is also called "Coach Kerby" intends to change that.
