New Orleans Triangular Indoor Meet Showcases Strong Performances by 2023 All-Americans
New Orleans, LA - The New Orleans Triangular Indoor Meet took place on 12/1, featuring outstanding performances by the 2023 All-Americans from Dillard. The team's impressive showing has put them in a strong position to be competitive throughout the season.
Leading the way was Ta'nijal Matthews, who kicked off her season with a blazing performance in the 60m event. Matthews clocked an impressive time of 7.61, which currently ranks her at #9 in the NAIA. This time also qualifies her for the national championships and places her at #2 in school history, just behind the six-time All-American Kevell Byrd.
Speaking of Byrd, she continued to make her mark in history by qualifying for her fifth national championship in both the 60m (7.63) and the 200m (24.87) events. Byrd, a 2023 NAIA 400m runner-up, will be looking to excel in her top event when she competes in January.
Another standout performer at the meet was Ta'nyia Flowers, who caught everyone's attention with her distinctive hairstyle. However, it was her speed on the track that truly impressed. Flowers opened up with a lifetime best time of 7.70 in the 60m event, securing her spot in the NAIA Indoor championships for the second time.
In the throwing events, Charra Bridges and Senior Alanni Martin showcased their skills. Bridges moved up to the number three position in school history in the Weight throw, while Martin climbed to number six in the same event. Their performances added valuable points to the team's overall score.
Coach Legania said,"We came out to work on a few things; my 2023 All-Americans put us in a really good position to be competitive all season". That is a great sign for the Bleu Devils, as this is only the season's first indoor meet.
